i guess this means nothing though

Interesting turn of events - also if I read correctly on ZAM they won't be doing the SoE Live event this year in Vegas, so there's that..
From an EQ standpoint, if they indeed will have "more resources [money] available" maybe they'll toss a few more dev's to the game if the new company still see's at as financially viable.. worst case scenario at least is that things just continue as usual.

Qulas said that Shang is organizing ROI Live will be held at Qulas's house.
-
Obviously it was Fllint. He wanted an excuse to not go to SoE Live this year, so he arranged to have the company sold so they wouldn't do the event anymore. The timing syncs up too, I mean, he did say he was out of town for a couple of weeks, and then SoE is sold! Corruption. Highest Levels.

I'd make the trip tbh.. only like 6 hours or so for me.

Real talk though. The people who bought them own Daybreak. Smed is the president, not the owner of. It's entirely up to the investment company if they believe in EverQuest the way smed does/did. If they tell him to trim the fat he's going to have to trim the fat. More money doesn't really mean more money for EverQuest, it can, but it doesn't translate directly into that. They're making H1Z1, Landmark, EverQuest Next, and they probably have at least 1 other unnamed project on the drawing board since they were quick to mention Xbox and mobile applications. Those other 3 games and planetside 2 will probably get the lionshare of the money. The best EQ1/2 players can hope for is things to get better, which no one is saying it can't or won't. But the worst is far from things simply continuing as normal.

http://kotaku.com/big-layoffs-at-everquest-studio-today-1685243961 (http://kotaku.com/big-layoffs-at-everquest-studio-today-1685243961)As a former employee (previous to this round of layoffs; I departed a couple of years ago, after just shy of 12 years with V.I., SOE, and SOE LLC, seeing the company through several parent companies, like SCEA, SPE, and SCE), and having watched this happen no less than 3 times previously, anyone that didn't see this coming is blind.
I won't go into the internals, as I still respect a lot of people at the company, but this round of layoffs are comprised of people that dodged the bullet many, many times over, due to understanding and manipulating how the company politics worked, and if they had any common sense at all, knew this was coming for a long time, but definitely knew when the purchase was made internal knowledge.
There was a lot of bloat that continued to carry over each time a rift, or layoff, happened, and in some cases, those that actually cared about their employees left by their own choice so that rather than scraping the lower paid people off the list, the lower paid folks could keep their jobs.
Fact is, a lot of what you have seen resulted from poor management decisions by people who should have been managed out of their positions a long time ago.
I'll be honest. I am not confident that Daybreak Games is long for this world, but for the sake of the people I still respect that work there (and to all my brothers and sisters who were let go, I wish you the best), I hope beyond all hope, that all the blood, sweat, and tears that were put into the titles we shipped over the years amounts to something that will stick around for a long time to come.
Random guy comment from above link. No clue how accurate, but it sounds legit.

Thom is gone, too.
I would have liked to see Rytan stay. Easily trade him for someone who didn't get fired.

I liked wishing Thom a merry Christmas every year and having him ignore me.

Higby just quit.
Planetside2 = fucked.

is there a thread i can watch aside from this one that keeps me up-to-date on the people leaving the EQ team

Higby just quit.
Planetside2 = fucked.
Planetside2's head coder just quit too,
It was a very difficult decision to make, but it feels like the right thing to do and the right time to do it. After around fifteen years of helping make games for the same company, I finally took something from work... some cardboard boxes full of my stuff.

He thinks EverQuest is SoE's highest revenue product and we're going to get so many new resources because of it.
He also believes in the tooth fairy.

EQ coming to facebook, heard it here first.
Probably their attempt to make more shitty facebook games... because it went over so well the first few times.

Dzarn appears to be axed. Hasn't logged into forums since the layoffs.

All dat axin.

Dex: Are we still working with storybricks
Terry: The answer is no, we made the decision that it was in the best interests of the game to take that work in-house. They did a lot of work for us and we're going to be utilising that. It's not like any of that is lost. But we no longer have a working relationship with storybricks
Dex: What are the plans for AI and what we've talked about with AI in both Landmark and EQN?
Darren: So, AI and the construction of AI... let's talk about the user generated content first. That is still very important to us. We are still committed to making that happen so that so that you, the players can create content for other players to enjoy. and building Ai and making those NPC react and act in a way that you would like them too is still a part of this. We're definitely doing that.
Internally, we're going to be developing all the things that we promised, all the things we talked about, those are still our goals, those are still our plans. Nothing's changed.
Losing Dzarn is the worst thing that could have happened to EQ. Goodbye to having any devs that actually play EQ.
And Absor is already working on more raids. Imagine Absor raids stomping on a face forever.
-
I still have no clue why you all idolize Dzarn.
His TDS resume:
- Shoulder Aug
- One off Raid 1 (took him 5 months to retune..)
- One off Raid 2 (easiest/stupidest raid in the expansion)
